Mai Izumitani is a yoga teacher and ceramicist based between the UK and abroad.

Her work weaves movement, mindfulness and creativity into one continuous practice — offering space to slow down, reacquaint and return to what feels essential.

[01] ABOUT

Born to Japanese parents who migrated to Europe in the 1990s, Mai was raised between London and Poland.

Her heritage lives quietly through her work — in ritual, repetition and the beauty of tactility in making and moving.

Practice in creation and movement are not purely a form of outwards expression, but a way of remembering internally.

[02] ROOTS

Mai teaches yoga as a practice of listening rather than striving.

Her approach is grounded in traditional teachings, translated gently for contemporary life — welcoming people exactly as they are.

Yoga, ceramics and sound are doorways. Each invites stillness, presence, a moment to pause.

[03] PRACTICE

“CALM IS NOT CREATED.
IT IS RETURNED TO.”

She does not teach to change people.

She holds space for people to slow down, reconnect with their bodies, and remember what is already theirs.

[04] ETHOS

At the heart of Mai’s work is a strong sense of community and shared presence.

She hosts thoughtfully curated classes, retreats, workshops and immersive experiences in the UK and internationally, bringing people together through movement, creativity and ritual.

Her work extends across studios, festivals and cultural spaces, collaborating with brands and platforms including lululemon, Soho House, GQ, Dazed, GAP, Adanola, and Free People.

Mai is currently a regional lululemon Ambassador for London.
